Fine Wine Fair profile: Marques de Caceres
Family-owned independent winery Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres, one of the exhibitors at our forthcoming Fine Wine Fair, was founded in 1970 and has been one of the key players in taking Rioja to the world.
Founder Enrique Forner acquired much of his expertise in France, mainly in Bordeaux’s Haut-Médoc region, where his family have owned Château Camensac, Grand Cru Classé since 1855.
In the late 1960s, Forner chose to settle in Rioja where he consolidated this wealth of experience.
Through Marqués de Cáceres, Forner demonstrated a modern approach to wine, moving away from traditional oaky Riojas.
His experience has led to the production of well balanced wines of rich concentration, intense fruit aromas with just a touch of oak.
When Forner retired in 2007, his daughter, Cristina Forner, became the president-CEO-owner of Marqués de Cáceres.
The winery now comes up with a full range of nine different DOCa Rioja wines covering each market segment.
Available in more than 120 countries, Marqués de Cáceres is one of the leading Spanish wine brands, particularly throughout Europe and America and is the best-selling Spanish wine in the US, Norway, France, Mexico, Panama, Cuba and Guatemala.
In 2009, Marqués de Cáceres represented 10% of overall Rioja exports worldwide (excluding young red wines) and 15% in the Crianza red category, according to the official statistics received from the Consejo Regulador de la DOCa Rioja.
