Gondola breaks the mould

Brand-specialist retailer Gondola is said to be performing a “genuine media first, by delivering a season of online wine tasting and food matching”.

The statement comes as a result of Gondola’s new status as the official wine partner to Toptable, the online restaurant review and booking website in the UK.

As part of the deal, the two companies will launch a “groundbreaking” online food and wine matching service next month. The service consists of Gondola’s wine partners and Toptable’s restaurant network, which will combine to feature restaurants, focusing on different themes and cuisines each month.

Speaking of the decision, Sam Woods at Toptable, said: “Gondola, in association with Toptable, will produce a genuine media first by delivering a season of online wine tasting and food matching, across a number of themes.”

This “unique platform” will be streamed through Gondola’s  main site as well as through a Gondola branded microsite. It will also be sent to Toptable’s 500,000-strong database.

Angela Mount, head of Gondola, said of the new initiative: “The wine industry is constantly looking for more direct ways of engaging with the consumer, providing information and education about wine and food.

“The video content provides a unique platform for this, and demonstrates the ease and immediacy of using online partnerships to bring a little bit more wine knowledge to the consumer.

“This will give our wine partners the opportunity to showcase their wines, and for us to work with some of the country’s great restaurants,” she added.

Meanwhile, Gondola’s mixed wine case offers for Toptable customers will feature on the Toptable site through its e-newsletter and are entitled Classics, Winelovers’ Collection and Discover South Australian Icons, while the final case is named Champagne & Sparkling Wine.

Speaking of the partnership, Mount said: “We are thrilled to be working closely with Toptable. Its demographic profile and strong customer base make it an ideal partner for Gondola.”
