BBR Apps its game
Berry Bros & Rudd is updating its iPhone App to stay up to date with the Apple gadget pandemic.
BBR’s decision to launch the updated App is symptomatic of a deeper change that’s altering the face of the wine industry, as consumers develop a thirst for knowledge as well as for the product itself.
BBR’s original App comes complete with tasting notes and ageing guides, but as Apple develops newer variants of its products, so too has BBR, with an updated and more versatile 1.2 version of the App that is compatible with the newest versions of the iPhone and the iPad.
The App now features 2,000 wines with tasting notes and when-to-drink hints for collectors available both on and offline, improved searching facilities and a vintage chart with vintage and/or region reviews.
The App, which is completely free, can be downloaded at bbr.com/app.
Examples of the trend in updating, enhancing and improving virtual wine knowledge includes the new beta version of Eric LeVine’s tasting notes sharing site www.CellarTracker.com , now renamed www.GrapeStories.com .
The beta version, developed due to a huge increase in interest in the site and its contents, demonstrates the increase in general knowledge about wines being consumed in developed markets, and highlights the important role the internet will play in this industry.
