Boutique hotel opens in Laguardia

A new hotel, complete with vinotherapy spa, cellars and a restaurant has opened in the mediaeval town of Laguardia, at the heart of Rioja Alavesa.

Spread across three knocked-together houses in the main square, Hospedería de los Parajes represents the culmination of a painstaking renovation project, which has seen the entire interior given a stylish makeover.

Each of the 18 bedrooms offers real townhouse character, and in several cases a jacuzzi, complete with wine-themed mosaics. A penthouse on the top floor features an outdoor terrace with views across the town to the Sierra Cantabria.

The underground cellars have been converted into a spa, wine shop and events space. Diners in the bar and restaurant El Bodegón can peer down through a one-way transparent floor onto the atmospheric vaulted stone passageways below.

With room rates at around €120 per night, this isn’t a budget option, but for anyone planning wine trips to the region it’s an ideal base from which to visit the local wineries and explore the picturesque alleyways of Laguardia itself.
