Australian winemaker releases Burgundy
The first Burgundian wines released by Mark Haisma, winemaker of Yarra Yering, have been introduced to award-winning independent store The Sampler in north London.
The arrival of the Bourgogne Rouge 2007 and Gevrey-Chambertin 2007 coincide with the 2008 en primeur Burgundy campaign in London, which began last week and will continue this week.
The Sampler describes the Bourgogne Rouge 2007 (£13.80) as “an absolute cracker of a wine with more structure and complexity than you would expect of any wine from this pleasant-but-not-earth-shattering vintage, never mind a humble Bourgogne. A mere 500 bottles made, so don’t leave it too late."
According to the independent merchant, the Gevrey-Chambertin 2007 (£29) is said to be: “Great value for a Gevrey with succulent fruit and lovely length. Ideally this needs a bit more time, so either lay it down for a while or drink with something meaty after a brief decant.”
According to The Sampler, Haisma’s 2008 Burgundian releases will include grand cru wines.
