Benares to reopen in January

Michelin-starred London restaurant Benares is set to reopen on 18 January after chef Atul Kochhar was forced to close the Berkeley Square venue following a fire earlier this year.

The restaurant has been closed for nearly four months following the blaze, which broke out in the ventilation system in the kitchen in September.

Kochhar has overseen a major refurbishment while the restaurant was repaired and new features include a brand new wine theatre and cellar, private dining areas and a chef’s table.

Kochhar was one of the first Indian chefs to gain a Michelin star for his modern Indian cuisine with a British twist.

He opened Benares in 2003, and also runs Ananda in Dublin. Last year he launched his second UK restaurant, Vatika, on the Wickham Vineyard in Hampshire.
