Makro cider to help publicans
Makro has launched an own-label cider in an attempt to cash in on a rising trend as well as increase sales and profit for its publican customers in the UK.
The cash and carry operator said that Felsgold is priced competitively enough to save an average of £4 per case of 12 bottles compared to some leading cider brands.
At £0.83 a bottle in its stores, Makro says that the publicans could potentially make a profit of £32 on each case sale.
Makro, one of the largest cash and carry operators in the UK, believes that the dual-pronged advantage of Felsgold (that of capitalising on the rise of cider consumption in the UK and at a recession-proof cost) is that it can provide publicans with "the ideal money-saving product that offers a greater margin of profit than leading branded ciders while maintaining the same high standard of taste."
Best served over ice, Felsgold is made from English apples and is produced and manufactured in Worcester.
Allard Sjollema, commercial director of Makro, said: “We are extremely pleased to be launching Felsgold as it is yet another way we are supporting our pub customers by offering a money-saving product."
Makro is selling a 12 pint-sized bottle case of Felsgold for £10.99.

They say it’s the smoking ban that’s killing off pub trade but I don’t think it is. I think it’s just how cheaply you can buy alcohol in the supermarket. If wholesale outlets can match that sort of thing, it might help pubs out. I’d imagine Makro are one of the better pub suppliers, they’re running that Love the Pub campaign at the moment.
