Creepy quiz night capers
The Côtes du Rhône Halloween Quiz Night went down a storm again this year, with teams from across the wine trade competing to win prizes at one of the spooky highlights of the trade calendar.
Although the drinks business team failed to make much of an impact upon the quiz leaderboard, we did manage to secure the prize for best fancy dress.
Arnaud Pignol, general manager at Inter Rhône opened the evening, before Joe Wadsack – dripping with with fake blood and gore – led the teams through their paces as this year’s formidable Quizmaster.
A fight to the death saw ‘Rhône Rabbit Rhône Rabbit Rhône Rhône Rhône’ (from The Wine Society) scrape the title following a first-rate performance in the buzzer round.
Following the event, Ewan Murray, head of tastings, events & PR at The Wine Society and captain of the winning team, said: This was the second year we had entered a team, and we were both delighted and surprised to win, as well as overwhelmed by the generosity of the prize. Thank you, Côtes-du-Rhône – it made what was already a great evening even better!!”
Prizes were also awarded for the best Rhône questions round, won by ‘Beaune Guzzlers’ (from Charles Taylor Wines), as well as for the best Halloween costumes, for which some members of the trade truly excelled this year. The best female costume was won by Nicola Pascoe from Farr Vintners, with the male prize tied between Paul Roberts from Bibendum and Alan Lodge from the drinks business.
