Torres lightens up

Torres has reduced the weight of its bottles in order to combat climate change. The initative is part of the Torres Green Project which is targeted at reducing its CO2 footprint.

Torres’ green Burgundy bottles will shed 90g, moving from 540g to 450g. This will affect close to 19 million bottles produced each year and will result in a glass reduction of 16.67%.

The brand’s Viña Sol 2008 was the first to undergo the change during bottling at the end of May this year.

The Spanish firm also plans to reduce the weight of 5.1 million Bordeaux bottles it uses in the winery each year, and its clear Burgundy bottles too.

Earlier this year Torres produced a special bottle sticker to promote its high ranking in the drinks business’ inaugural Green List in the January issue.
