Handy life hacks for using up undrinkable beer
If you’re searching for ways to use out-of-date undrinkable beer instead of throwing it out, look no further. db has five ways to reuse it.
If you’ve got a few bottles or cans of beers that have passed their expiry date or may not be good enough to drink, here are some handy ways they can be repurposed.
Clean wooden furniture
Simply apply some beer to the wooden surface you wish to clean with a soft cloth and prepare to be dazzled. Apply more beer to the cloth and polish in circular motions to add some sparkle to your wooden coffee tables and heavy wooden bookshelves.
Jazz up copper and cast iron pans
Traditionally, the last bit of beer from spent kegs was said to be collected and used to polish up the copper vats in breweries. Next time you have got a stain on your favourite pan or piece of cookware – you know, the ones that don’t like dishwashers, let it soak in some beer in the kitchen sink for around 10 minutes. Then, use a soft cloth to gently buff the surface to get rid of the marks and make your pans look as good as new.

Remove carpet stains
Leftover beer makes a handy replacement for carpet and rug cleaners. Pour a few drops over any carpet stain and let it soak for a while. Then, blot the stain with a clean cloth until it lifts out of the fibres. Afterwards, clean the area with soap and water to remove the scent of the beer. db also looked into whether vodka also works as a stain remover in a recent investigation.
Get rid of rust
Pour some beer over any rusty bolts, screws, hinges or areas of doors, gates generating rust and give it a few minutes before the carbonation starts breaking the rust down. Wipe clean afterwards.
Reinvigorate a small patch of land
According to gardeners and life hack experts, beer’s fermented sugar can help to stimulate plant growth and destroy fungi. Simply put some leftover beer into a spray bottle and spray it onto any bald patches on your lawn to allow the grass to soak up the sugar and pull energy from it, encouraging it to regrow.
