5 Argentine Master Winemakers reveal their final meals

From lasagne to barbecued beef, five of the Argentine winemakers from this year’s Master Winemaker 100 share what they would eat and drink for their last suppers.

The following answers have been taken from the 2025 Master Winemaker 100 guide.

Gustavo Rearte, Achaval Ferrer

“My last meal would be an Argentine ‘asado’ with my family and friends. I’d pair it with a vertical of the last 10 years of our Malbec Finca Altamira Single Vineyard.”

Daniel Pi, Bemberg Wines

“I would like to be surprised by death. I can’t imagine having a meal. So I prefer to die near my parrilla, grilling a nice piece of Argentine beef with a glass of Malbec.”

Silvio Alberto, Bodegas Bianchi

“My final meal would be an excellent pasta, such as an Italian-style lasagne Bolognese, perfectly paired with a Cabernet Franc.”

Ernesto Bajda, Catena Zapata

“Grilling an asado for the people I love. Each of them would choose a bottle of wine from my cellar, and we’d share sips of their choices, celebrating life together.”

Alejandro Vigil, El Enemigo Wines

“My last meal would be lentil stew, a common dish in Argentina made with various meats and vegetables. I’d love to pair it with a 1997 Saint Felicien, a local Cabernet-Merlot which is deeply connected to my wife and my concept of wine.”
