Antinori reunites Arcadia Vineyard with Stag’s Leap
Marchesi Antinori has acquired Arcadia Vineyard, which was owned by the late Warren Winiarksi, once again bringing Stag’s Leap and the Coombsville AVA property under the same ownership.
Napa Valley wine titan Winiarski died in June 2024 at the age of 95. He co-founded Stag’s Leap in 1970, which shot to fame during six years later during Steven Spurrier’s Judgment of Paris when its S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon gained the highest score of any red wine at the tasting.
Winiarski would sell Stag’s Leap to Ste. Michelle Wine Estates with Marchesi Antinori as a minority partner in 2007 – Tuscan wine icon Antinori would acquire full ownership in 2023.
In the 17 years between the sale of Stag’s Leap and his death, Winiarski continued to grow grapes commercially at Arcadia Vineyard, which he acquired in 1996, providing fruit to Stag’s Leap.
“My friend Warren Winiarski has always been very attached to this vineyard of his,” commented Marchese Piero Antinori. “When he decided to sell Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in 2007 he made it a condition that he could retain ownership of the Arcadia Vineyard. Warren, in fact, like us, recognised the Coombsville AVA as one of the most promising areas of the Napa Valley. This is why we are particularly thrilled today to have been able to reunite this vineyard with the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars property.”

Arcadia Vineyard as an estate covers some 135 acres (around 55 hectares), but only 84 acres of this (34ha) is under vine, planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by Chardonnay and Merlot. A press release concerning the acquisition stated that the area of uncultivated land on the estate which Winiarski donated to the Land Trust of Napa County will remain undeveloped.
Marchesi Antinori CEO Renzo Cotarella noted that the acquisition of Arcadia Vineyard will help the company to “move closer to [its] goal of being 100% estate grown for all wines made at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, like all the wines produced at Antinori”.
The value of the deal is yet to be disclosed.
