Signature Brew creates beer with Travis

Glaswegian band Travis and Signature Brew have collaborated to launch a new 4.8% lager named ‘Raze The Bar’.

The beer’s launch will coincide with the UK leg of the band’s Raze The Bar tour – its first British headline tour since 2022 – and tell the story behind its ‘Raze The Bar’ track from Travis’ 10th studio album LA Times.

The track, written by Fran Healy, is, according to the band, “a bittersweet story about the closure of the Black & White Bar – a much-loved New York haunt for Travis and scores of local creatives. The lyrics tell of a story of a fictional last night in the Greenwich Village bar before it closed forever and ‘Raze The Bar’ sees Travis joined by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Brandon Flowers of The Killers who also supply additional vocals on the single.

The band has admitted that, in many ways, the new Raze The Bar lager “acknowledges Travis’ formative years, recalling rambunctious nights revelling in the pubs of Glasgow”.

Speaking to the drinks business, Travis bassist, Dougie Payne said: “There aren’t many things that go together better than great music and good beer. So, to have the chance to create our own beer that pays homepage to our Glasgow roots, whilst celebrating the launch of our latest album ‘LA Times’, is a dream come true. Our Raze the Bar track from the new album is a love letter to a long-lost drinking haunt of ours, and part of the inspiration for our beer, also named Raze the Bar.”

Payne told db: “Working with Signature Brew we wanted to create a beer that marks our journey in music and our hometown of Glasgow, where we would spend many hours rehearsing at the Horseshoe Bar – finishing with a much-needed pint of lager, to where we have come to now with LA Times. We hope our fans enjoy it as much as we do.”

Signature Brew founder Sam McGregor added: “Collaborating with Travis was a special one for us, I remember when their first album came out and they have remained a household name ever since. Getting together with the band in the brewery to create the recipe was super fun, and then seeing the Raze pouring in bars and music venues across the UK is awesome.”

Raze the Bar is available for the on-trade and customers direct via the Signature Brew webshop in 440ml cans until May.
