Laelia Tequila: crafted in honour and tradition

Named after the Mexican orchid, Laelia is the first Tequila from Casa Natima, reflecting the true essence of a contemporary distillery.

Nestled in the heart of ‘El Valle’ in Amatitán, Jalisco, Casa Natima Distillery is one of three business units owned by Grupo Solave, a prominent producer of agave products and solutions since 2010. The 100% Mexican family-owned distillery benefits from more than four generations of experience in agave cultivation, nurturing 6,500 hectares of blue agave. Established in 2019, Casa Natima combines expertise and a meticulous production process to create authentic Tequilas. The distillery’s approach merges time-honoured techniques that preserve tradition and showcase the artistry of the land.

The distillery is proudly presenting its first own brand, Laelia Tequila, produced under its Norma Oficial Mexicana (an official mark of authenticity). The brand was inspired by the Mexican orchid, a symbol of beauty, strength and resilience, and by In Xochitl in Cuicatl, the ceremonial flower songs of the Nahua.

Laelia pays homage to Tequila’s origins and the lowlands of Jalisco, highlighting the area’s natural terroir and beauty. Envisioned and crafted by master distiller Carlos R. Huizar, Laelia is said to embody a deep passion for Amatitán in every bottle. It ensures the preservation of the land’s unique elements and flavours with the utmost care and respect for tradition.

The Tequila is made with fully matured, sustainably grown blue Weber agave. Maintaining traditional practices, the agave hearts are crushed using a Tahona, also known as stone mill, and go through natural fermentation using local, mineral rich mountain spring water. They are cooked in traditional brick ovens and distilled in copper pot stills to ensure an authentic character with nothing added but water, wisdom and time.

The brand launches with two varieties, blanco and reposado. Laelia Blanco is aged for a minimum of 14 days in American white oak barrels, resulting in aromas of cooked agave, citrus and herbal notes, with hints of wood and vanilla. The palate displays an agave-forward character with hints of white pepper and a light caramel finish, recognised in November 2024 with double gold at the Latin America World Spirits Competition by Tasting Alliance.

Laelia Reposado is matured exclusively in French white oak for four to six months. The nose again offers aromas of cooked agave and citrus, along with vanilla, oak, cinnamon, and floral and fruity nuances. On the palate, it brings sweet toasted caramel and delicate minerality with woody notes. Both expressions celebrate tradition and the region’s beauty and ancient volcanic soil, which for centuries has given life to the native agave spirits.

Laelia Blanco and Reposado are currently available in California through select retail locations, e-commerce, and at laeliatequila.com. For more information, follow @laeliatequila.
