Global women’s brewing event will return in 2025
Women On Tap CIC takes the reins of the global brewing initiative, aiming to unite breweries and communities for International Women’s Day.
International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day (IWCBD) will make its comeback in 2025, following a year-long hiatus. Now led by Women On Tap CIC, the initiative will focus on the theme ‘Unite Society’ and encourage breweries, home brewers, and communities worldwide to create collaborative beers while raising funds for women-focused non-profits.
Founded in 2014 by Sophie de Ronde, head brewer at Burnt Mill Brewery, IWCBD has brought together brewers globally to celebrate women in the beer industry and highlight diversity in brewing. Women On Tap CIC, known for promoting inclusivity in the beer sector, will oversee the campaign moving forward, with support from the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) as the headline partner and WSET as the education partner.
A significant move for 2025 is the introduction of mandatory charitable commitments for participating breweries. Inspired by the ‘Brave Noise’ campaign, breweries must pledge a minimum donation of £100, or a percentage of profits from their IWCBD beer sales, to a women-focused cause as part of their involvement.
“IWCBD is a brilliant project, and there’s an opportunity to capitalise on its legacy by driving tangible support for causes that make the beer industry more diverse, inclusive, and commercially resilient,” said Rachel Auty, founder of Women On Tap.
The campaign aligns with the overarching International Women’s Day 2025 theme, #AccelerateAction, emphasising women-focused fundraising. Participating breweries can choose their beneficiary organisation or select from a recommended list of relevant non-profits with a focus on beer diversity.
Inclusivity in the brewing industry
Neil Walker, head of communications at SIBA, expressed the organisation’s commitment to improving inclusivity in the brewing industry: “Our research highlights a lack of representation for women in leadership roles. We hope this collaboration will foster positive change while celebrating world-class beers.”
Reflecting on IWCBD’s legacy, Sophie de Ronde shared her optimism for its future under Women On Tap’s leadership. “IWCBD has always been an autonomous event to empower women and other minorities in brewing. I’m thrilled to see it taken to the next level by a team with a shared commitment to diversity and inclusivity.”
The main campaign will officially launch in January 2025, ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March. Interested breweries can sign up now to begin planning their collaborations and fundraising efforts.
