Vignobles Cruse-Lorenzetti shuffles roles across its four Bordeaux chateaux
Vignobles Cruse-Lorenzetti is restructuring the vineyards at two of its organic chateaux, Lafon-Rochet in Pauilliac and Lilian Ladouys in Saint-Estèphe, amid a shuffle of the personal of its four Bordeaux chateaux.
The company has appointed Vincent Bache-Gabrielsen, its property director at its Pauillac fifth growth Château Pédesclaux, to head up chateaux Lilian Ladouys and Lafon-Rochet, which neighbour next to each other despite being in different appellations. The two organic chateaux (acquired in 2008 and 2021 respectively), have operated under a single legal entity since the start of 2024, an arrangement which allowed them to pool resources across both estates, while increasing the quality of their wines.
Gabrielsen has detailed knowledge of the Lilian Ladouys plots along with extensive experience in Saint-Estèphe, the company said, and will play “a significant role in carrying out the vineyard’s evolution”, which includes a portion of plots at both estates restructured “to enhance their potential and address the challenges of climate change”.
The designation of the highest-quality plots will enable it to “optimise the selection process for Château Lafon-Rochet’s grand vin”, it said. while “careful consideration will continue to be given to the production of each and every one of our wines, by respecting their unique qualities and terroirs”.
Meanwhile, Christophe Congé, who has overseen the restructuring at the 45-hectare Lafon-Rochet since 2021, will head up Pauillac fifth growth Château Pédesclaux, including its new and ambitious white wine project. Prior to joining Vignobles Cruse-Lorenzetti Congé spent 22 years as managing director at Chateaux Lafite Rothschild and the adjacent property Château Duhart Milon.
As profiled recently by db, Château Pédesclaux has been transformed under the ownership of the Lorenzetti family, thanks to canny vineyard acquisitions and the ongoing ‘cabernisation’ of the estate.
The company, which also owns Chateaux d’Issan in Margaux, said that Bache-Gabrielsen and Congé would “combine their talents to become an effective duo, working collaboratively on the 2024 vintages of Pédesclaux and Lafon-Rochet, under the guidance of Emmanuel Cruse”, director-general of Vignobles Cruse-Lorenzetti.
