Vagabond hires Christobell Giles as new MD

The wine bar group has appointed Giles, previously Vagabond’s operations director, to lead its expansion under new Majestic Wine ownership.

Vagabond Wines has appointed Christobell Giles as managing director to lead the next phase of growth for its self-pour wine bar concept across the UK. Giles, formerly operations director and most recently acting general manager, steps into the role immediately.

Having joined Vagabond in 2023, Giles brought years of hospitality experience from her roles at Wagamama, Hilton Hotels and Megan’s Restaurants.

“I’m delighted to be taking on the role at such an exciting time in Vagabond’s history,” Giles said. “With a passionate team and ambitious plans, I’m looking forward to working closely with Majestic to build on our momentum.”

Vagabond has faced substantial challenges in recent years, from managing lingering COVID-era debts to closing its Heathrow Airport location, and most recently its remaining Gatwick site. The catalyst of events lead to Majestic acquiring the on-tap wine brand, securing nine wine bars and 171 jobs, and setting the stage for Vagabond’s expansion and long-term growth.

Giles will now work alongside Majestic’s leadership team to spearhead this mission, which includes launching a new CRM programme and advancing staff training through Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) certifications.

Majestic CEO John Colley expressed confidence in Giles’ leadership. “Christobell has invaluable hospitality experience and has already made a huge impact since joining Vagabond. Her leadership will be key as we execute our vision for Vagabond’s future.”

With Majestic’s backing, Vagabond aims to expand beyond its London and Birmingham sites, furthering its unique self-pour wine concept and engaging new audiences across the UK.
