Familia Torres release rare ex-cellar collection

Familia Torres has released a collection of rare ex cellar vintages of some of its oldest and finest wines, to showcase the ageing potential of its greatest wines.

The Familia Torres Colección Privada is a limited and exclusive selection of rare ex-cellar vintages aimed at private clients and collectors. Each year, the company will release a small collection of exceptional wines that have matured for at least a decade in the family’s private reserve, which are chosen “to exhibit the intricate complexity that only the passage of time can bestow upon fine wines”, it said.

The first edition will features five wines from nine different vintages ranging from 1989 to 2013. It comprises the winery’s flagship wine, Mas La Plana from the 1989 vintage, (the vintages 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013 vintages are also available); Grans Muralles (vintages 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012); Chardonnay Milmanda (2012 and 2013) from Conca de Barberà; Reserva Real (2012); and a Riesling, Waltraud (2012), from Penedès.

Miguel Torres, president of Familia Torres called the wines “part of our legacy and a living testimony of our unwavering dedication to excellence”.

“It is exciting to enjoy these vintages now, once anticipated to possess remarkable ageing potential, and to see that time has proven us right. They are wines of profound complexity that have evolved in an exceptional way,” he said.

The wines, the company added, reflected the “true expressions of their place of origin” and had developed “exquisite flavours and complex aromas that can only be experienced with such maturity”, with even youngest wines “already show their ageing potential”.

“These bottles offer a glimpse into the future, revealing what younger vintages’ evolution could become,” the company added.

Each bottle, retains its original label and will come with its own dark wooden case, which has a wax seal and a ribbon indicating the relaunch date, as well as information about the wine and the vintage.
