UK tasting to showcase top-end Australian Cabernet

A London-based tasting promises to showcase “the very best of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon in the UK”, according to organiser Amelia Jukes.

Commenting that it will be a “a true benchmarking exercise and a very rare opportunity to taste older vintages of some epic wines like Penfolds Bin 707, old Moss Wood (2001) and John Riddoch – among others such as 2004 Grosset Gaia” – it follows a previous London-based tasting by Jukes featuring Australian Shiraz.

Called State by State: A Celebration of Premium Australian Cabernet Sauvignon, the event wil see current releases paired with rare and mature vintages, many of which have come directly from the winery reserves.

There are over 40 producers taking part, including several wineries who are launching new Cabernet Sauvignons into the UK.

The wines will be on show at 67 Pall Mall on Wednesday 23 October between 10:30am and 4pm.

By focusing on one variety, these tastings are designed to show the UK wine trade the regional differences found within Australia, while the inclusion of older vintages has been done to illustrate how well these top-end Cabernets age.

‘The ultimate aim of State by State series is for the UK wine trade to truly acknowledge and understand Australian fine wine and the quality and value it offers at the very top end,” said Jukes, before stating, “This promises to be a phenomenal tasting.”
