Breweries supporting gender equality can sign up to share views

Breweries have been invited by Women On Tap (WOT) to offer views that will assist in supporting the future of gender equality in beer.

WOT has asked breweries that are already keen to support – or are curious about – gender equality in beer to be part of a “feedback panel” to help find “effective solutions” and “best positive outcomes for everyone”.

Between November 2024 and February 2025, WOT has said that it will share specific brewery-related ideas and plans with feedback panel members and will ask breweries in support of gender equality for “feedback via a simple Google Form”.

According to WOT founder Rachel Auty, details that identify a brewery will only be seen by her via the forms. Then, once assessed, the ”feedback will be shared with the wider advisory board and in any funding or public activity anonymously, unless otherwise agreed”.

As part of the next drive for change towards gender equality in beer, Auty has urged as many British breweries as possible to take part and has noted that the “commitment will only take up an hour or two of time each month”.

This summer, WOT, the company behind Wotfest, created an advisory board which recruited candidates to develop plans for the next three years, specifically looking at people with significant networks in the equality space. In July, WOT also hosted the one-day symposium Summer Hop which featured speakers who were activists, trailblazers, leaders, researchers, and experts in beer sharing data, insights and perspectives on the way the sector is evolving.

The move to broaden and continue further discussions on gender equality in beer, was recently amplified by findings from this year’s Dea Latis Gender Pint Gap: Revisited report which showed evidence that things aren’t improving for women in the beer industry.

Equality in beer remains in the spotlight, but despite inclusivity talks and events being open to all, attendance is still primarily from women. As the number of female beer drinkers dropped, Dea Latis asked why this has happened — and what the sector could do to turn things around. As such, this initiative and new call to action by WOT is one chapter in the story of how the beer industry can actively play a part in moving things forwards to show how beer is a drink for everyone.

Breweries interested in supporting gender equality and being part of the discussion can put themselves forward here via the Google Form.

The deadline for breweries to participate ends at 5pm on 24 October 2024.
