Historic Chianti producer joins North South Wines
Wines from the Piccini family-owned Geografico, will be distributed in the UK by North South Wines from later this month.
Piccini 1882 has chosen North South Wines to distribute its Geografico wines throughout the UK. Run as a cooperative, Geografico produces Chianti wines from high-altitude, low-yielding vineyards in the areas of Castellina, Gaiole and Radda.
“We are fully committed to engaging consumers with a selection of wines from some of the most exciting Tuscan wine regions, and the rich cultural heritage connected to each label,” said Giacomo Panicacci, export manager for Geografico. He added that the cooperative’s winegrower community are “ready to write the next chapter in its long history, shoulder to shoulder with North South Wines’ passionate team.”
Geografico forms part of the Piccini family’s estates, and its wines are due to arrive in the UK market in late September. Six Geografica wines will be available through North South Wines: Borgo alla Terra Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG; Corte dei Pazzi Vermentino; Sodero Rosso di Montalcino DOC; Saccente Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019; Contessa di Radda Chianti Classico DOCG; and Contessa di Radda Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG.
“These wines not only represent the best of Chianti Classico but also embody a sustainable and community-focused approach, which aligns perfectly with our values as a B Corp company,” said Kim Wilson, founder and managing director, North South Wines.
Founded in 1961 by 17 winegrowers, Geografico has achieved Equalitas certification and its new headquarters in Castellina runs on 100% electric fuel, and is soon to be powered by around 3000 m2 of solar panels.
North South Wines will introduce Geografico at the Grapest Hits tastings in London on the 25 September and in Manchester on the 30 September.
Alongside Geografico under the Piccini umbrella sits wine estates in central and southern Italy, covering more than 200 hectares of vineyards from Chianti Classico to the volcanic areas of Vulture and Etna. These include Fattoria di Valiano in Chianti Classico, Tenuta Moraia in Maremma, Villa al Cortile in Montalcino, Regio Cantina in Basilicata and Torre Mora in Sicily.
In April 2022, Piccini acquired Cantina Porta Rossa, a historic Piedmontese brand from the Langhe, for an undisclosed sum.
