Wimbledon Beer Festival to amplify the best in craft beer
The third annual Wimbledon Beer Festival will showcase the best independent craft breweries from around the UK next month.
The event, taking place from the 6-8 September, has been curated by Max Eisenhardt, the brewery’s head of sales with input the master brewer Derek Prentice and will feature beer from Two Flints, Burning Sky, Drop Project, Ideal Day, The Kernel and Azvex.
Wimbledon Brewery has also confirmed that the event will also host a contest, which will see each of the independent breweries attending competing against each other to see whose beer sells out first.
Speaking to the drinks business, Eisenhardt explained: “For a bit of fun, we are staging a ‘Battle of the Breweries’, which will see big names pitted against each other to see who sells out fastest. We have sourced beer from some of the leading UK craft breweries who are all independent and masters of excellence in their beer making.”
A wide range of beer styles will be showcased over the three days, from IPAs to pales and NEIPAs, table beer and saison and stout as well as double dry-hopped brews and pilsners. The cask section will be pouring bitters, pale ales, blondes, APAs all alongside Wimbledon Brewery’s brews.
More than 15 cask beers are set to be available and attendees will additionally find classics and seasonals from breweries including Wye Valley and Palmers, as well as specials from Long Man Brewery and hazy cask offerings from Drop Project and Track.
The brewery has also put together a selection of its own one-off blended cask beers and cask conditioned keg beers for the event. Last autumn, Wimbledon Brewery revealed how it had been working with hop merchants Charles Faram to showcase recently developed English hops for a brand new range of beers it was creating for people to try in 2024.
Wimbledon Brewery managing director Simon Lewis had told db that the London-based brewery’s plans were to “produce a new English pale ale to be a core beer” using the progressive new hops available from Charles Faram while other beers created will be “one-offs”.
These beers may be making an appearance at the festival where beer fans can try some of them for the first time.
For non-beer drinkers, cider will be supplied by Against the Grain Cidery, along with Wimbledon Gin cocktails, a selection of wine as well as gluten-free options and soft drinks.
Wimbledon Brewery’s doors will be open from midday each day on the Friday 6 September, Saturday 7 September and Sunday 8 September to give visitors as much chance to make the most of the festival as possible.
