Fine cider listed at one of London’s oldest restaurants
Fine cider brand Showerings Cider has secured a listing at Covent Garden’s long-running establishment Rules, which featured in the James Bond film Spectre.
The restaurant is one of the oldest restaurants in the capital, having been established by Thomas Rule in 1798. Located in Covent Garden, it is well known for its menu of traditional British food, with a specialism in classic game cookery, oysters, pies and puddings.
Brand manager of Showerings, Nick Showering, told db: “Our listing with Rules is another step forward for not just Showerings but the fine cider category and demonstrates a growing appreciation of quality cider as a pairing to fine dining.
“Demand for fine cider is steadily growing, and our multi vintage product is hopefully changing people’s perception of the drink as a perfect accompaniment for food and an alternative for wine. As an iconic London establishment, Rules is a perfect fit for Showerings, both championing the best of British food and drink.”
Only cider
The Showerings cider will be the only cider on its drinks menu, which normally includes fine wines from traditional Old World regions, such as Bordeaux, Burgundy, Piedmont and the the Douro.
The restaurant believes that the cider will “perfectly complement” the “delicate tasting notes of Showerings triple vintage cider”.
In addition to the listing, Showerings and Rules are partnering with Cocktails in the City, where they will be serving their triple vintage cider as well as cider-based cocktails. Cocktails in the City will take place in Beford Square’s private gardens from the 5 to 7 September.
Listings
The news follows similar listings by leading UK chefs, including Simon Rogan, Alain Roux, and Tom Kerridge, with the cider served in Michelin-starred restaurants including L’Enclume, The Waterside Inn, The Hand and Flowers in Marlow, and NOBU.
Additionally, it is sold by Partridges, Amathus Drinks and Bailey & Sage and other outlets.
It has also just released its newest blend of triple vintage cider using apples from the 2021, 2022 and 2023 harvests, following the inaugural blend using apples from the 2017, 2018 and 2021 harvests
Nick Showering, Director of Showerings Cider, said: “We are delighted to be listed at Rules, the oldest restaurant in London.
“It is a highly renowned and respected restaurant and a natural fit for Showerings with our similarly established heritage. We are thrilled to be the only cider on its menu and this new listing only further my mission to change people’s perception of cider and highlight how well it pairs with good food.”
