Château des Charmes sold to investors
Bosc family Canadian winery Château des Charmes has been sold to a group of investors in the country.
The Ontario-based producer, founded and owned by the Boscs in 1978, will see a partnership with the Niagara Custom Crush Studio (NCCS) as part of the deal.
As a result of the investment, Marco Piccoli, the former director of winemaking and operations for Arterra Wines Canada, and the current COO at NCCS, will transition to a dual role as both CEO of Chateau des Charmes and chief strategy officer (CSO) at NCCS.
As CEO of Chateau des Charmes, Piccoli will oversee the entire winery business, and as CSO at NCCS, he will be responsible for executing their long-term strategic initiatives, and aims to ensure a “great partnership evolves” between Château des Charmes and NCCS.
The family said the “amazing legacy” of Paul Bosc Sr would be “honoured” by the deal with Paul-André Bosc stating he is “dedicated to ensuring there is a seamless transition” and “very little disruption to the current team”.
Supply
He will continue to own and operate the Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard, established by Paul Bosc Sr in 1982, and the vineyard will continue to exclusively supply Château des Charmes with premium vinifera grapes.
Piccoli started his career in Italy before becoming a prominent figure in the Canadian wine community.
He said: “We are very excited to embark on this new chapter for Château des Charmes and look forward to continuing the tradition of producing premium wines that showcase the unique character of our vineyards. Our team is dedicated to preserving the legacy of this unique winery, while also bringing a fresh perspective and innovation to this fantastic brand.”
Scope
Graham Rennie, founder and CEO of Niagara Custom Crush Studio said: “Our partnership with Chateau des Charmes will increase the scope of our hospitality options for wine enthusiasts and provide our winemaker clients with a range of benefits including privileged access to Chateau des Charmes high-speed bottling and disgorging lines.”
As part of the transition, the winery has retained the services of BevPro Canada to help with the strategic and commercial running of Château des Charmes.
It also said there would be a release of “new and innovative wines” that celebrate the “authenticity of Niagara”, as the company moves forward.
