Amathus Drinks signs Brad Pitt’s gin brand
UK drinks importer, distributor, and retailer Amathus Drinks has become the UK distributor of Brad Pitt’s new gin brand, The Gardener Gin, which launched this weekend at the2024 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
The gin was launched at the Cannes Film Festival last May, as Pitt’s first gin in collaboration with the Perrin Family and distilling legend Tom Nichol, whose 42-year career as a master distiller, culminated as Master Distiller for Tanqueray Nº Ten and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Gin Guild in 2015. Although he officially retired from the industry in 2015, he remained a co-owner of Harrogate Tipple Distillery and continued to work on small batch collaborations, such as the Downtown Abbey gin, a gin in honour of architect Sir Christopher Wren with The City of London Distillery and expressions with Kansas-based distillery J Rieger & Co. According to People magazine, the secret, two-year long collaboration with Pitt and Perrin provided an opportunity to create the gin he had “always dreamed of.”
Greg Kimber, head of agency spirits at Amathus Drinks said the team were delighted to have been trusted as the exclusive UK suppliers of The Gardener Gin.
“We are admirers of Tom Nichol’s work, who is such an important and influential figure in the gin business, and with Pitt and Famille Perrin he has helped create a lively and modern gin that captures the art-de-vivre of the French Riviera. Thanks to their considered mix of bitter orange, sweet orange and pink grapefruit, all grown locally in the heart of the French Riviera, the gin has a rich and balanced taste,” he said.
Matthieu Perrin, co-founder of The Gardener and fifth generation of Famille Perrin added that the Amathus team’s “commitment to excellence, diversity, and progression in the dynamic drinks sector mirrors that of Famille Perrin and we look forward to a successful and long-lasting collaboration.”
The Gardener Gin will be available to purchase in the UK from Amathus Drinks, both online and in its London stores.
The gin was officially launched at the British Grand Prix this weekend, which Brad Pitt attended. The launch featured a purpose built yacht bar “Spirit of the Riviera”, to celebrate the gin’s French roots – Pitt first worked with the Perrin family after he and his ex-wife Angelina Jolie bought the 400 hectare Provençal estate Château Miraval in 2008. This saw the launch of the critically acclaimed Miraval Cotes de Provence Rosé in 2012 and Studio by Miraval in 2019. Following Pitt’s split from Jolie, Pitt launched a rosé Champagne brand Fleur de Miraval in collaboration with the Rhone-based Perrin and Champagne-based Péters families in October 2020, which was served at the Oscars in 2022.
