May turned out to be a big month for many this year, playing host to a major trade show in Hong Kong, various glittering awards ceremonies, and even a new coffee and extra virgin olive oil product launch. Here we break down the key events which made memories in May.
Metabev China collaboration with Starbucks’ Oleato launch
Linglie Vodka from Chinese distillery Laizhou were showcased at the public launch party of coffee chain Starbucks’ new product range, Oleato, hosted at Bar Mixato at the Starbucks Roastery in Shanghai, the largest Roastery branch in Asia. The new range infuses Starbucks coffee with Italian Partanna Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Bartender Luca Cinalli crafted exclusive cocktails combining Laizhou brands with Starbucks coffee and the Partanna Olive Oil used in the Oleato range. More than 1,200 guests attended the sold-out public launch party, including Starbucks founder Howard Schultz who visited Shanghai specifically for the launch of his passion project in the key Chinese market.
ASC Burgundy Series
ASC Fine Wines, one of China’s major wine importers, launched a series of tasting events in May aimed at promoting its Burgundy wine portfolio across the country.
ASC, which has been the exclusive importer of Louis Jadot since its inception, kicked off the series with with an extensive Burgundy tasting in Beijing, showcasing a selection of wines from regions spanning as Pouilly-Fuissé, Puligny-Montrachet and Vosne-Romanée.

Team db Asia headed over to the HKCEC in Hong Kong to represent the top medal-winning wines from both the Global Masters and Asian Masters competitions.
Lifetime Achievement Award
Crown Wine Cellars (CWC) and db Asia teamed up in Hong Kong to commemorate Vernon Moore, a veteran of the wine trade who first launched the Hong Kong Wine Society in 1981, a club which is still going strong. CWC principal announced the award, handing a custom decanter and certificate to his long-time friend and industry colleague in front of a crowded room.
The Drinks Business Asian Awards
Asia editor Eloise Feilden and the db Asia team welcomed friends and colleagues from across the industry to celebrate the very best from drinks companies operating in the Asia Pacific region at a ceremony for The Drinks Business Asian Awards 2024.
