AI beer recipe created by Asbury Park Brewery

Asbury Park Brewery, based in New Jersey, has used artificial intelligence to produce its latest beer AI-PA.

The 6% ABV beer, was made by Asbury Park Brewery head brewer Chris Vaughn who used AI on to assist in generating the best hazy IPA recipe.

Vaughn explained how he had made “a few tweaks” while the recipe for AI-PA was finalised and that he was impressed by its “notes of citrus, mango and pine”.

Speaking to the drinks business, Asburty Park Brewery founder Bob McLynn said: The AI-PA is a New England style hazy IPA. It’s dry hopped with copious amounts of Mosaic, Amarillo, Citra, Centennial, Eureka and Lemondrop hops. I could see other people trying a similar AI experiment with beer or liquor. It alters your approach to a recipe so you come at it from a different angle. It’s been a fun experiment but we like our beer best made by humans.”

Using AI to make a beer or proffer a recipe has previously been seen in the sector with examples such as AB InBev’s Beck’s Autonomous which was launched last spring.

Asbury Park Brewery‘s release has been well-timed as it joins in on the AI trend. Recently, the inclination to use new technologies such as AI have have been predicted to become more relevant to brewers, especially after scientists found a way to train AI to identify beer flavour compounds to make predictions on what consumers will enjoy drinking the most.

Asbury Park Brewery, has historically been known for its links to music via its venues but has also garnered a reputation in the trade for being forward thinking and having its thumb on the pulse when it comes to understanding the zeitgeist for what consumers want.

AI-PA will be available at brewery’s tasting room, located at Asbury Park, New Jersey in the US. The brewery’s other well-known brews include beers such as Sea Dragon and Watermelon Summer.
