J.Lo launches RTD Margarita
Actor and singer Jennifer Lopez has added a pre-mixed Margarita to her The House of Delola drinks line.
Lopez founded Delola Cocktails in April 2023, alongside Benny Medina, Ken Austin and Jenna Fagnan – the name comes from a nickname she has. The previously launched drinks in the line include the Bella Berry, Paloma Rosa, and L’Orange Spritz.
The 12.5% ABV RTD supposedly only has 125 calories per serving – the brand claims that a “classic” Margarita would have 220. A 750ml bottle of the Light Margarita has an RRP of US$19.99.
Mixologist Lynnette Marrero, who crafted the cocktail for Delola, said: “People today are more aware of the quality and ingredients in their drinks, and the fact that we’ve crafted mixology-level cocktails using natural ingredients is clearly resonating with consumers. We’re also committed to ensuring Delola Cocktails provide a ‘better-for-you’ option with lower ABV, lower sugar, and less calories in each serving than traditional cocktails.”
Lopez, who also chairs the company, said of the new product: “By introducing Delola to the world, we wanted to provide world-class cocktails without all of the calories and effort. The Delola Light Margarita is fresh and delicious with premium tequila and triple citrus notes. I think it’s the perfect ready-to-enjoy version of the most popular cocktail!”
“Whether you’re bringing a bottle to a BBQ during the warmer months or entertaining and gifting for get-togethers, the convenience and elegance of Delola Cocktails frees you up so you have more time to spend with friends and family,” she added.
It is a canny move to add a Margarita to the range – according to data from NielsenIQ, the concoction of lime juice and agave-based spirit is the US’ most popular cocktail, a position it has held consistently for some time. Some Tequila brands have gone big on the cocktail as part of their marketing strategy, with Pernod Ricard-owned Olmeca Altos recently teaming up with actor Busy Philipps on an ‘Emergency HotLime’ focused on Margaritas.
