the drinks business Asia announces sustainability winners
Last night, the drinks business Asia recognised two drinks companies for their outstanding work in sustainability in an inaugural prize ceremony at the ProWine Singapore exhibition.
On Wednesday 24 April, members of the trade gathered at ProWine Singapore to raise a glass to sustainability.
the drinks business Asia‘s Celebration of Sustainability, in collaboration with ProWine, rewards companies pioneering eco-conscious ways of doing business.
Peter Schmitz, director of ProWein, flew to Singapore for the show, and said a few words to mark the occasion.
“It’s a pleasure to see our satellite show ProWine Singapore being successfully held for the 5th time. And of course, a pleasure to see our partnership with the drinks business magazine, get developed and extended from Düsseldorf to Asia. Thank you all for coming,” he said.
“Sustainability has always been a hot topic at ProWein Düsseldorf. In 2024, this important theme was featured even more prominently, supported by the premier of International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA), and the second edition of Sustainable Wine Roundtable (SWR) – addressing the common sustainability concerns faced across production, distribution, research, and logistics.
“Today, at our ProWine Singapore 2024, we are delighted to see local wine and spirit professionals gathering under one roof, to discover the taste for diversity, and to celebrate the best sustainable initiatives by wine and spirits companies with products sold into the Asian market.”
ProWine Singapore exhibitors were asked to submit an application ahead of the exhibition, which is taking place this week at Singapore Expo.
After seeing all the good work that’s being done by producers around the world to make our planet a better place, the judges decided to recognise the work done by two companies. For the inaugural event, one wine and one spirits producer were chosen for the celebration.
Celebration of Sustainability Spirits Winner
In the event’s inaugural year, we had some strong applications from spirits companies working with sustainable practices, but one producer stood out.
Its grain-to-glass concept uses locally-sourced ingredients from nearby farms, helping to reduce CO2 emissions and ultimately protect the planet.
Winner: Clonakilty Distillery
Celebration of Sustainability Wine Winner
When it comes to wine, one producer appeared to have sustainability at the core of its business.
A number of its vineyards are certified organic, but this wine producer also has local people and communities in mind, and is keeping the traditions of the region and its old vines alive.
Winner: Bobal de San Juan
Thank you to our sponsors for this event, Chilean producer Viña Concha y Toro, Tarsier Southeast Asian Spirit, Code Green for supplying Domaine Montrose wines and Xpur from Amorim Cork.
