Sussex appeal: Glyndebourne partners with Bolney
Sussex opera house Glyndebourne has named nearby producer Bolney Wine Estate as its official wine partner for 2024.
Through the partnership, Bolney’s still and sparkling wines will be listed in Glyndebourne’s three on-site restaurants, as well as at its main bar, and at a separate bar dedicated to the producer. They will also be provided as part of the Glyndebourne picnic offering.
Bolney’s North Downs Cuvée (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) and Cuvée Rosé (Pinot Noir and Meunier) will constitute Glyndebourne’s new house sparkling options. Other Bolney wines that will be served include its Blanc de Blancs sparkling, still Pinot Noir and still Pinot Gris. Its vermouths and gins will also be available.
On 16 May, the opening night of the summer festival, a glass of the North Downs Cuvée will be offered to those attending the premiere of the new production of Georges Bizet’s Carmen.
Glyndebourne is about a 30 minute drive away from the producer’s Haywards Heath estate.
Bolney general manager James Davis MW said that he was “thrilled” with the partnership: “At Bolney Wine Estate, we produce award-winning still and sparkling wines at our Sussex estate and see this collaboration as an excellent way of aligning our passion for exceptional winemaking with Glyndebourne’s commitment to delivering unforgettable cultural experiences.”
“We look forward to elevating every moment of the Festival this year with our wines and providing the perfect toast for the occasion,” he added.
This year, which also happens to be Glyndebourne’s 90th anniversary, in excess of 125,000 people are expected to visit from mid-May to mid-December, covering the Festival and Autumn seasons.
Glyndebourne previously had a long-standing partnership with Nyetimber, which has vineyards in Sussex and Hampshire, and, soon, a distillery in the Lake District.
