Sting’s wine brand appoints UK distributor
Il Palagio, the Tuscan wine brand co-owned by former Police frontman Sting, will be distributed in the UK by Italian wine giant Zonin1821.
Villa Il Palagio, which was purchased by the musician and his wife, Trudie Styler in 1997, has 50 hectares of vines today, planted with varieties including Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Canaiolo and Colorino. There are also olive groves and a kitchen garden which, like the vineyard, are cultivated organically.
Since 2020, Sting and Styler have worked with famed Italian oenologist Riccardo Cotarella on the Il Palagio wine range, which include the Casino Delle Vie (Chianti), Sister Moon (Toscana IGT) and, fittingly, Message in a Bottle (Rosso Toscana IGT). RRPs range from £18 to £78.
Now the couple has appointed Zonin1821 to distribute the wines in the Englishman in New York singer’s native market, as Sting and Styler explained: “We are thrilled to be working with the brilliant Zonin1821 team to bring and elevate our wines from Il Palagio to the UK. By mutually combining our knowledge we will be able to strengthen the distribution and authority of this prestigious treasure in our beloved United Kingdom.”
Zonin1821 vice president Francesco Zonin added that the UK is one of the “top markets” for the wine giant, and called the new clients “an iconic British couple who share a great passion for the excellence of Tuscan wine and the lifestyle of our country”.
Zonin1821 previously partnered with Kylie Minogue and Benchmark Drinks in 2021 to produce Kylie Minogue Prosecco Rosé, a fizz that quickly became a bigger hit in the UK than many of the pop princess’ songs.
Sting isn’t just in the wine business – he also recently launched an amaro brand. db discovered more in Rome.
