Nirvana gives teetotallers a way to up their BBQ beer game
London-based no and low alcohol brewery Nirvana has introduced new beers ideal for barbecue weather: a wheat beer and a cloudy lemon lager.
The brews, a 0.3% ABV Bavarian hefeweizen and a 0.2% ABV cloudy lemon lager, will be available exclusively in 500ml bottles and have been released in time for the upcoming spring/summer drinking season.
Speaking to the drinks business, Nirvana’s head brewer James Rabagliati said: “Both beers are ideal for sunnier days ahead. The cloudy lemon’s a fusion of soft, bready lager balanced out with light spice from the hops and a tangy, citrusy sweetness from the all-natural lemonade. Light, yet full of flavour and extremely drinkable.”
Describing the hefeweizen, Rabagliati told db that drinkers can expect “fruity esters of bananas and cloves, together with a high carbonation and a soft, creamy mouthfeel” all of which he says help to “make this the perfect refreshing summer drink”.
Rabagliati pointed out that this beer is also “naturally hazy” and hinted that “the spice and body combined with a subtle sweetness from the wheat creates a satisfying beer which is an excellent pairing for summer BBQs”.
Last autumn, Nirvana Brewery succeeded in raising crucial funds in a move that helped grow its low alcohol beer portfolio. The business, oft-cited as the UK’s first-ever dedicated no/low-alcohol brewery reached its target to secure half a million pounds from a small group of private investors, taking its 2023 fund-raising total to just over the targeted £750,000.
