Breweries raise money for Sexual Assault Resource Agency

Four US craft breweries have created beers to raise awareness and funds for Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA) based in Virginia.

The initiative, which involves each brewery producing a beer using Simcoe hops, will see four beers created using the term ‘Simcoe for SARA’ as inspiration. Through the launch of the beers to drinkers in Charlottesville, each brewery has hopes to call attention to SARA’s efforts to help eliminate sexual violence and work with survivors of all ages and genders, part of the cause behind what makes the agency such a crucial power for good in the area.

The breweries involved were Decipher Brewing, which made a West Coast IPA, Superfly Brewing which created a NEIPA, Högwaller Brewery which has made an American wheat ale and Selvedge Brewing has created a hazy IPA.

Part of the proceeds from each beer will benefit SARA, which, according to local reports, offers free, confidential help to sexual assault survivors and their families in Charlottesville and Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson counties.

April is sexual assault awareness month, and each year a handful of breweries link up with the agency to produce beers where US$1 for every pint goes to SARA to help the teams continue their mission to support survivors of sexual assault.

Simcoe for SARA first started in 2018 to raise awareness about sexual violence while celebrating local beer. To find out more about SARA you can visit saracville.org
