Aldi’s ‘wine of the week’ promo goes weekly
Aldi is boosting its occasional ‘wine of the week’ promotion to become a weekly event as competition hots up between the retailers.
Until now, this particular promotional mechanic was reserved for seasonal calendar dates such as Christmas, Easter and bank holidays – with notable success, such as the Specially Selected Cairanne, which sold out in just four days after it was reduced a whopping 65% at Christmas, from £8.99 to £3.49, despite a two-bottle purchase limit.
The team is now rolling out the offer out as a new weekly promotion, with a 23% saving on its first line, a Specially Selected Argentinian Malbec.
“Outside of these weekly wine offers, we will continue to run seasonal promotions, reducing the prices of several wines across our rosé, red, white and sparkling ranges ahead of key calendar dates,” a spokesperson confirmed.
Last month the retailer launched a new range of “off the beaten track wines” priced under £10, under its new Unearthed label, as well as boosting its premium own label Specially Selected range in its spring and summer refresh.
According to Kantar data published this morning, Aldi has reclaimed its 10% share of the grocery market that it last held in September 2023, after seeing sales increase by 2.8%.
