Tiny Rebel to close down flagship venue

Tiny Rebel Brewery is closing down its flagship venue in Newport due to rising costs.

The Welsh brewery revealed how it is being forced to shut the venue after just under a decade on the high street due to a lack of government support for the retail and hospitality industries.

Despite a turnover of £16.2 million last year, the brewery admitted that it can no longer keep up with costs.

Speaking on social media, a spokesperson for Tiny Rebel said: “Since the pandemic, Newport City Centre has been slowly imploding, with retail and hospitality suffering the worst of it. Footfall has been decreasing, operating costs have increased significantly and the hospitality sector has had limited support from the government. Unfortunately, our Tiny Rebel Bar on Newport High Street has been a casualty of these factors.”

The brewery, which was founded by Brad Cummings and Gareth Williams, also revealed to press that it had spent the last 18 months trying to save the bar but admitted that it now needed to accept that it has to close.

Tiny Rebel is reportedly doing everything in its power to support current staff, whether they stay with them or move on, the brewery stated on social media.

The Welsh craft brewery also owns bars on Westgate Street, Cardiff, and its brewing site in Rogerstone, however the Newport bar will close its doors for good at the end of the month.
