Ricky Gervais’ Dutch Barn vodka wins major retail listings

Dutch Barn Orchard Vodka, co-owned by comedian Ricky Gervais, will now be stocked by key UK stores as the spirit expands its presence.

Ricky Gervais bought into Dutch Barn Orchard Vodka, made from apples in North Yorkshire, in November 2023, investing significantly in the spirit.

In December, he issued an ‘urgent appeal’ entreating “all supermarkets, off-licenses and corner shops” to stock the spirit.

“I’m the co-owner of the company. This could make me a lot of money,” Gervais quipped in a video posted on social media, where he describes the product as “the posh one in the brown bottle.”

Prior to Gervais’ involvement, the vodka was available to buy from Amazon, Waitrose, Tesco, Morrisons and ASDA, as well as via the Ellers Farm Distillery website.

Leading the charge

Shortly after the comedian made his plea, the brand announced that Costco had taken up the call, with the first 600 bottles of Dutch Barn delivered to the retailer’s Watford branch in February 2024.

Last week it was also confirmed that Dutch Barn will hit Sainsbury’s shelves across the UK from 10 March.

Steve Hickey, sales director at Ellers Farm Distillery, commented: “We’re very excited to be working with Sainsbury’s and helping even more consumers rediscover what good vodka really is. Sainsbury’s is one of the UK’s largest and fastest-growing retailers so this listing is a big win for us, and we can’t wait to see our amazing product in the aisles up and down the country.”

Dutch Barn’s distinctive brown bottle was chosen because it’s made locally and uses a higher percentage of recycled glass than light glass.

The “exceptionally smooth” vodka is 40% ABV and retails for approximately £30.
