Scottish shop opens and immediately runs out of Tennent’s

A new Scottish shop that opened in London last week ran out of Tennent’s Lager straight away as people clambered to buy all of the beer.

The new store, named The Shoap, was opened in Islington by Gregg Boyd, the founder of Auld Hag – purveyors of Scottish scran, last Friday and had run out of Tennent’s by the second day.

Boyd, who was originally from Kirkintilloch stocks a wide range of classic Scottish produce with everything on sale coming from north of the border.

Speaking to the Scottish press, Boyd admitted: “We ran out of Tennent’s on Saturday night, we had three kegs and we sold all the cans as well so that was good news and quite funny.”

Other Items sold in The Shoap include: Cheese from Inverness to Mull, smoked fish from East Neuk, as well as charcuterie from Edinburgh.

Discussing how successful the venture had already been, Boyd revealed “We also ran out of all the Irn-Bru. I think we served 400 customers each day. A lot of people came through and it was really busy. Some people had travelled from Kent and even further than that to get some stuff they hadn’t had for a long time.”

According to Boyd: “A lot of people were sharing their love for The Shoap and the idea of it. Some of them had been living for 40 years in London and hadn’t had anything like it so they were very pleased.”

Prior to opening The Shoap, Boyd operated a delivery service for people looking to get Scottish fare while living in the capital.
