All the award winners from the Master Winemaker 100 2024
On Monday, db‘s Master Winemakers ceremony gave awards for the very best wines of the year. Find out the winners in every category here.
the drinks business released its new edition of the Master Winemaker 100 guide at Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris on Monday. The 2024 volume profiles the year’s 100 best winemakers and individual award winners, as determined by the drinks business‘s competitions arm, the Global Wine Masters.
The competitions are spread over the year, with each highlighting a particular variety, style or iconic region. The small scale of each ensures a rigorous and considered approach to the current market, and ensures each wine has the opportunity to shine on its own terms. Moreover, all the competitions are led by Masters of Wine, who make up the majority of judges.
As Patrick Schmitt MW, chair of the Global Wine Masters explained at the ceremony, “we don’t run vast tastings, that see critics swamped in samples – a situation which could see subtle wines getting overlooked. Rather, we run small standalone competitions – allowing judges to focus on a particular type of wine in an unhurried manner. This gives us the opportunity to develop not only a buyer’s guide to the best bottles for our readers – but also a health check on the category being judged.”
Each competition therefore offers the chance for a wine to stand out against its peers and as a representative of the category. In all competitions that produced multiple Master medallists, the judges selected a wine for an overall award, representing the pinnacle of winemaking for the style.
