Top people to watch in craft beer in 2024

Who should you watch out for in the world of craft beer? db’s beer editor Jessica Mason offers her top picks for the voices that are truly changing the industry.

David Jesudason

Beer Writer of the Year 2023

David’s book Desi Pubs garnered the attention of pub, beer and foodie fans alike and also won Beer Book of the Year 2023. As a British-Asian writer, Jesudason travelled the length and breadth of the UK, visiting ‘desi pubs’ run by British-Indian landlords and took people on a journey to parts of Britain that are seldom visited. The book is a triumph. But we feel there is more greatness to come from Jesudason.

Amélie Tassin

Women in Beer and Tipple Marketing, founder

Tassin is the founder of Women in Beer (formerly Beers without Beards) and also runs beer specialist marketing company Tipple Marketing based in Edinburgh. Through Women in Beer she has spearheaded a mentorship initiative and established a community of beer-loving women. Plus, while establishing Tipple in 2022, she also set out to help food and drink businesses to find their place in a competitive market. Tassin offers brand strategy and social media management via Tipple as well as inclusivity training and workshops for businesses in the sector and is positively changing the way the industry has been shaped, showing the way forwards towards more diverse horizons that consider equality as fundamental.

Andy Parker

Elusive Brewing, head brewer

After recently launching a taproom to high acclaim just moments away from good friends at Siren Craft Brew, the Berkshire Beer Trail has officially been added to the map. Elusive, based in Finchampstead, uses early gaming stylings for its brand image and a west coast influence for its beers. Everyone wants to brew with Parker right now and collaborations have marked both how popular he is as well as how admired his brewing skill has become in the trade.

Robbie Knox and Dan Trelfer

Moon Under Water, podcast hosts

YouTuber and podcaster Knox was recently named as the new ‘landlord’ for the Moon Under Water – a podcast where he co-hosts with Dan Trelfer. Knox and Trelfer bring a hefty dose of humour and wit to the series and riff off of one another well. The podcast, which is devoted to interviewing a new guest each week and asks them to create their perfect pub in ‘the other realm’ where they can select ideal drinks and items to ban or add to the venue as well as a name for the watering hole. Knox replaces John Robins who formerly hosted the podcast.

Helena and Anthony Adedipe

Eko Brewery co-founders

Eko brewery, which was launched in 2018 by Helena and Anthony Adedipe, brews African-inspired vegan beers made with traditional African brewing techniques and recipes. The duo have recently launched their first round of crowdfunding after self-funding the business to date and opening their first tap room in Peckham. From what we have seen and tasted. Expect good things.
