The incident took place on the night of 27 March this year when 37-year-old Jamie Kettle, driving a stolen Landrover Discovery well over the speed limit, was pursued by police.
Driving into the town of Worksop, Kettle, Kettle approached a junction at high speed and the car careened through the wall of The Lockside, which is operated by Craft Union Pubs, while patrons were present playing a game of pool.
Sergeant Clint Gloyn of Nottinghamshire Police said: “He continued to drive at speed in highly populated built-up areas before crashing into the pub. There were numerous people inside the pub at the time and also walking through the town centre. Extensive structural damage was caused to the pub but thankfully no-one was injured.”
Kettle fled the scene and jumped into a canal where he was then found by police and arrested.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, Kettle pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and without insurance, criminal damage to the pub, and two counts of theft from a shop. He was sentenced to be jailed for two years, and has been banned from driving for three years and three months.
It has also been pointed out that one of the unnamed pool players still managed to pot the black at the moment the car smashed through the wall.
