With a history working in wineries across France, Australia, the US, Argentina and Chile, Undurraga will be responsible for the continued production of high-end wines at Doña Paula.

Based in Mendoza, Doña Paula is owned by Santa Rita Estates, and has over 700 hectares stretching across four vineyards.

Undurraga has a background specialising in viticulture and enology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica of Chile. Having spent five years alongside winemaker Aurelio Montes developing the Kaikén winery, a sustainable vineyard based in Mendoza, Undurraga’s return to the province will see him lean on his experience within viticulture to further enhance Doña Paula’s wines.

In a press release, Undurraga said: “My experience in vitiviniculture, where people, vines, soil, climate, and all the elements that give life to unique places, have provided me with a perspective that I seek to convey in a unique experience for wine lovers.”

“This vision has driven me to embark on a new stage alongside Doña Paula, through a challenging project focused on world-class terroirs, thus contributing to the legacy of this winery and elevating the excellence of its wines even further,” he added.

Part of the Santa Rita Estates, Doña Paula exports premium wines to over 55 countries. Founded in 1997, the winery is best known for its Malbec, its Seleccion De Bodega Malbec 2021.

Speaking on Undurraga’s appointment, Mauricio Palacio, CEO of Doña Paula, said: “Working alongside the vitiviniculture team led by Martín Kaiser, the intention is to take Doña Paula to the next level, solidifying its position as one of the most important and relevant wineries in Argentina.

Despite being famed for its Malbec, the winery has also dabbled in a number of wine varieties, having successfully planted Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Syrah alongside its traditional Argentine offering.
