Allegrini family announces assets division

The Allegrini family has signed an initial agreement that will ultimately lead to the division of the Italian producer’s key assets.

Azienda Allegrini was founded by the family in Valpolicella in 1854 as an agricultural business producing, among other things, wine. The family made its first shift into fine wine production in 1979 when Giovanni Allegrini acquired La Grola, a hill in Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella, from which its flagship fine wine La Poja is produced.

According to the agreement, the Tuscan and Venetian sides of the business will, by and large, be split between two branches of the family.

Francesco, Giovanni and Matteo Allegrini, the sons of Franco Allegrini (Giovanni’s son, who died in 2022), will acquire a majority share in Allegrini itself and also Corte Giara, a brand created in 1989 from a partnership between the Allegrini family and a group of growers in Veneto. The brothers will be managing the companies alongside their cousin, Silvia Allegrini.

It has also been confirmed that Marilisa Allegrini (Francesco, Giovanni and Matteo’s aunt), and her daughters Carlotta and Caterina (their cousins) will be retaining ownership of Allegrini’s Tuscan estates, Poggio Al Tesoro in Bolgheri (acquired by the family in 2001) and San Polo in Montalcino (acquired in 2006) , alongside Villa della Torre in Fumane

Francesco Allegrini told the drinks business: “This is a new chapter for our company, one that will bring a breath of fresh air and innovation. The aim is to raise the bar and focus on the quality of our wines, something that has been mastered by my father Franco and that my brothers and I are carrying over, to every area of the company. The decision to acquire a majority stake in the company reflects our determination to drive changes and to anticipate market needs. The new structure focuses not only on continuous product development, but also on process innovation and the creation of cutting-edge solutions.”

“We are excited to embark on this new journey and are confident that with outstanding teamwork and commitment, we will achieve remarkable results,” he concluded.
