King Charles birthday whisky launched
Highgrove and The Cotswolds Distillery have launched a limited-edition single malt whisky released to celebrate the 75th birthday of His Majesty King Charles III.
The special edition whisky has been created from a vatting of Cotswolds Distillery single malt whisky made using heritage Plumage Archer barley grown at the Highgrove Estate and matured in specially selected Bourbon, Port and ex-Red wine casks.
Plumage Archer is a barley variety which yields a subtle but unique twist on Cotswolds’ new make spirit, filled into three different cask types, all of which form part of this blend.
The casks were filled in May 2017, bottled exclusively by Cotswolds Distillery on His Majesty’s birthday this week (14 November 2023).
First release
It is the first release Cotswolds Distillery have done with Highgrove which features Plumage Archer spirit matured in ex-Port casks, resulting in a whisky with a flavour profile of red fruits and notes of nutmeg.
Each bottle of the whisky has a commemorative label and is presented in a royal blue tube to mark the occasion.
A limited-edition collection of 1500 bottles is available to purchase exclusively from The Highgrove Shop at Highgrove Gardens and the Highgrove website.
All profits from sales of the whisky will support The King’s Foundation for its charitable delivery of education and training initiatives, some of which take place at Highgrove.
Delighted
Scott Simpson, Head of Group Retail for The King’s Foundation, said: “We are delighted to announce the release of the Highgrove King’s Birthday Single Malt Whisky. We are pleased to be working with a local distillery based in the Cotswolds who have created this special edition whisky using barley grown at the Highgrove Estate.”
“As with all sales of Highgrove products, garden tours and events, proceeds will be used to enable the life and work of The King’s Foundation including its range of inspiring education and training programmes.”
Cotswolds Distillery Founder Dan Szor said: “It has been an honour and a privilege to work with the team at Highgrove again to produce this exceptional and unique English single malt whisky to celebrate the Seventy-fifth birthday of His Majesty King Charles III”
The news follows Graham’s Port releasing ten of the very last remaining bottles of 1948 Vintage Port to commemorate His Majesty King Charles III’s 75th birthday too.
