Mike Skinner of The Streets collaborates with 1800 Tequila
Musician Mike Skinner of The Streets has collaborated with 1800 Tequila on a limited-edition bottle to represent his new track Turn Your Face into The Sun.
The collaboration follows the release of The Streets new album The Darker the Shadow the Brighter the Light, and an accompanying film directed by Skinner, which was released on Friday 13 October.
It sees the release of a limited-edition bottle 1800 Tequila’s Essential Artists series with Skinner, who the brand said “as a leader of UK garage music and street culture supports fellow creatives” with his vision captured in the label design, referencing the artwork from his musical releases.
The new bottle follows collaborations with hip hop star Kojey Radical and artist Daniel Cordas, as well as artwork by the late Keith Haring, who was known for his unique, bold style, creating public art in the streets and subway stations of New York City.
Limited to only 500 bottles, the design for the Mike Skinner bottle takes inspiration from the lyrics of the new The Streets single. The song explores the “innate instinct to turn your face to the sun so that the shadows are behind you, to push ever forward into new creative territories and modes of artistic expression”, according to the brand.
The design’s foreground is dominated by a silhouette beside a bus stop, which it described as “a knowing nod” to Mike Skinner’s classic The Streets album A Grand Don’t Come for Free.
The background also draws on 1800 Tequila’s association with street art, it said, with “hazy oranges” injecting colour into the urban environment, and a “pop of neon” above the silhouette’s head which was “tying 1800 Tequila and Mike Skinner together in the composition”.
Mike Skinner said: “1800 Tequila stands behind artists that celebrates its vision in a similar way to which I approached my new album and film.
“I can’t wait for others to be able to get their hands on my limited-edition bottle with 1800, which is a celebration of creativity and independent thinking.”
