Jeremy Clarkson launches ‘the V8 of lagers’
Writer, presenter and farmer Jeremy Clarkson has launched Hawkstone RedBrew 6.2, a limited-edition lager inspired by the British autumn.
The 6.2% ABV beer, an alcohol percentage mirroring the volume of some V8 engines, follows on from Hawkstone’s limited-edition summer launch of Sundowner, and joins the brewery’s regular roster of Premium Lager, Cider (as made by Clarkson’s Farm‘s breakout star Kaleb Cooper), Session Lager, IPA, Pils and even a vodka.
The distinct ruby red hue of the beer is due to the addition of red rye crystal malt, supposedly to mirror the colour of the autumn leaves, it has also been flavoured with Hersbrucker hops. According to Hawkstone, the hops lend a “subtle fruitiness” to complement the “rich, malty undertones”.
RedBrew 6.2 is also, according to Hawkstone, “inspired by the hard work of British farmers after a very tough year” – Clarkson himself has received plaudits for his highlighting of the difficulties farmers in the UK face in his hit Amazon Prime series.
In a video posted on Hawkstone’s Instagram, motoring journalist Clarkson praised the beer as “the V8 of lagers”.
As for his verdict on the drink’s 6.2% ABV, he said: “Jesus Christ, that’s strong.”
12 cans of the beer retail on Hawkstone’s website for £32.
Clarkson is not the only former Top Gear presenter who has just launched a drink to capture the essence of the changing British weather – James May recently expanded his James Gin range with London Drizzle, which has been infused with certain botanicals to recreate the aroma of petrichor, the smell when rain falls on warm earth.
