Pasqua launches Pugliese wines with Majestic
Veneto-based producer Pasqua has unveiled Idealysta, its new range of Pugliese wines that will be sold exclusively through UK retailer Majestic.
The two wines, both from the heel of Italy, retail for £12.99 (or £9.99 as part of Majestic’s mixed six).
The Idealysta Rosé di Puglia is a rosato created from Primitivo and Negroamaro. It is described as having aromas of red fruits with hints dried thyme and rosemary.
Puglia is considered to be the cradle of modern Italian rosato, with Leone de Castris celebrated the 80th anniversary of its Five Roses label this year.
The other wine in the lineup is a white, blended from Chardonnay and Fiano, the latter of which is native to Southern Italy. Tasting notes for it include white peach, apricot, and orange peel.
Export manager Cecilia Pasqua told db of why Puglia is such a hotspot for pink wines: “Puglia is great region to produce ‘rosato’ wine, with a long winemaking tradition, however outside Italy especially, is a bit of an unsung hero. Its Mediterranean climate with hot summer temperatures combined with cool sea breezes and cooler nights ensures the perfect ripeness of the grapes. It also has fantastic variety of grapes grown locally – with more than 20 varieties destined for pink wines.”
“The style of rose from southern Italy is typically fuller and richer than those from the north,” she continued, “hence it can be paired with a variety of dishes and fuller flavours. Try seafood like salmon or seared tuna, duck or rare roast beef, as well as creamy cheeses.”
As for what to pair with the Idealysta Chardonnay Fiano, Pasqua said: “With the Idealysta white, again the fuller, richer style lends itself well to food pairings – with its ripe notes and rich texture it can stand up to richer, creamy pasta dishes as well as roasted poultry dishes, cheeses and charcuterie.”
Pasqua recently held an event in London exploring the pairing potential of its Cecilia Beretta range.
