Largest ever Screaming Eagle collection comes to auction

Christie’s first online “California Only” auction will bring Napa cult wines to an auction in Los Angeles this September.

Some of the most sought after and exclusive California wines, predominantly from Napa Valley, will feature with the largest ever single owner collection of Screaming Eagle, it claims.

It features more than twenty vintages of the cult Napa classic, including rare magnums and multiple vintages of The Flight, creating a  a unique opportunity to purchase lots with “impeccable provenance”, Christie’s said.

All lots were purchased upon release from the property and stored in temperature and humidity controlled professional storage, the auctioneer said. Offered in original wooden cases, they were unopened until inspection by Christie’s specialist team.

The sale also features a collection of Napa rarities including large formats of Groth Reserve Cabernet 1985 in both six and three litre and a rare case of magnums of Stags Leap Cask 23 1985, which are “among the all-time highest rated wines from California”, Christie’s claims.

Also featured is a rare full case of Beaulieu Vineyards Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 1968 purchased from collection of Mr. Henry E Singleton at Christie’s Los Angeles in April 2000. This collection also includes bottles of Heitz Martha’s Vineyard from 1968 and 1969, alongside multiple vintages of Harlan Estate.

To conclude the auction, there are ten vintages of Scarecrow offered in three-bottle original wooden cases and multiple vintages of Opus One. Christie’s has noted that shipping for the sale is only within the state of California and if shipping outside arrangements will be required with bidders’ own licensed shippers.

The sale opens on ! September and closes on 13 September.
