Canned sake cocktails head to the UK

Sake Sling canned cocktails, which feature Japanese rice wine as their base, are now available for UK consumers.

Combining the traditional sake craftsmanship of Japan’s 200-year-old Daimon brewery with recipes from the late mixologist Wayne Collins, Sake Sling canned cocktails balance fruit and botanical flavours with complex Unami ones provided by sake.

The base alcohol is Japanese sake, made from polished rice, water, yeast and koji (steamed rice inoculated with a mould called Aspergillus oryzae). The sake is then blended with a host of natural flavourings including yuzu, melon, mandarin  and Cherry, bringing a freshness, with no artificial flavours or sweeteners used.

In the Mandarin & Cherry canned cocktail, notes of dark cherry and cherry blossom are blended with bright mandarin, complemented by a full bodied premium Daimon sake, which has a delicately spicy background note of sushi ginger.

Yuzu & Melon combines honeyed notes of musk melon, balanced with yuzu (a citrus integral to Japanese cuisine) with fruity and floral premium sake with a note of bergamot tea.

Brand name Sake Sling takes its inspiration from the classic Singapore Sling cocktail, first created in the Raffles Hotel in Singapore in 1915.

The range of Sake Sling cocktails are available from Amazon’s UK store now, and via premium independent retailers soon, for £7.50 for a Taster Pack (one of each flavour).
