Top 10 drinks for the FIFA Women’s World Cup

The FIFA Women’s World Cup starts on Thursday and the drinks business takes a look at the best ten beverages to support countries.

 England

Not only is AB InBev the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cups, Budweiser is the official beer of the England Women’s football tea since 2019. Last year, it teamed up with Tesco to give away 150,000 beers to celebrate the Lionesses’ famous victory at the Euros. So it makes sense to grab some Buds for the competition.

England v Haiti – 10:30am on 22 July (GMT)

Italy – Prosecco

Set for a big opening fixture against Argentina, surely the best go-to drink to celebrate this epic occasion is a glass of Italy’s famous fizz. Chose from our Global Prosecco Masters 2023 for maximum enjoyment.

Italy v Argentina – 7:00am (GMT) on 24 July

France

The choice is large, but it must be wine.

Perhaps a Courvoisier or Rémy Martin Cognac should it go into extra time and penalties.

And if it really has to be some fizz, check out a Master winner from our Global Champagne Masters 2023.

Jamaica

Firstly taking on France is Jamaica with its incredible white rums. Why not try a beautiful rum cocktail or just go straight for the shots.

A great option would be Wray and Nephew’s Overproof rum, which has been bottled and distilled in the country for 200 years, or maybe Appleton Estate’s Signature Jamaica Rum.

France v Jamaica – 11:00am (GMT) on 23 July

USA

If England have taken the Buds, what about the USA?

Fortunately, they have some of the greatest wines in the world. Perhaps one of Napa Valley’s finest, as footballing superstar Megan Rapinoe, who even had her own ‘Wine Down’ Vodcast during the pandemic, would surely agree.

Perhaps you could try and get hold of one of these cult Napa wines if the US win, again.

USA v Vietnam – 02:00am (GMT) on 22 July

Ireland

One word: Guinness.

Australia v Ireland – 11:00am on 20 July

New Zealand

Seems obvious, you say: Sauvignon Blanc.

And there are plenty of outstanding ones to choose from in the Global Sauvignon Blanc Masters 2023 list.

But if you want to go off-piste, perhaps try a Yeastie Boys craft beer instead, or a Hawke’s Bay Syrah to mix it up a bit.

Or go for the hat-trick and just have all three.

New Zealand v Norway – 08:00am (GMT) on 20 July

Japan

Sake seems like the logical choice here.

Zambia v Japan – 08:00am (GMT) on 22 July

Argentina

Another country with a collection of great wines, with the most obvious being Malbec. You can choose something from the Global Malbec Masters that will be perfect.

But don’t discount Cabernet Sauvignon or Cabernet Franc from the equation

Italy v Argentina – 07:00am on 24 July

Australia

Tough conditions for Australian wine exports as key markets fall

A South Australian wine or, of course, one of its lagers is a good go-to option.

Perhaps something from the Global Syrah Masters or Chardonnay Masters would do nicely.

Australia v Ireland – 11:00am on 20 July

Spain

Sangria

Rioja, of course, and there some excellent wines to choose from in our Masters list.

But if you are looking for the party spirit, don’t forget about the joys of Sangria

Spain v Costa Rica – 08:30am on 21 July
