The Wine Trade Sports Club Foundation celebrates 50 years
The Wine Trade Sports Club Foundation will be marking its 50th anniversary with a charity fundraising dinner at Vintners’ Hall this September.
Following three annual charity walks arranged by the Wine Trade Sports Club, David Bishop, Michael Hasslacher and Patrick Lynch signed a declaration of trust on 17 July 1973 establishing a registered charity that was then known as The Wine Trade Foundation.
The foundation’s purpose was to support the employees and former employees in the wine and spirit sector in the UK and Ireland.
While that first walk raised £800, since then The Wine Trade Sports Club’s fundraising for the foundation (which in turn donates to industry charity The Drinks Trust) has exceeded £800,000.
The black tie event on Tuesday 26 September will begin with a Champagne reception at 6.45pm, followed by a three course dinner with wines donated by a number of merchants. It is expected to end at 10.30pm. As fundraising will be taking place throughout the evening, it is suggested that attendees bring cash.
The occasion will also be used to pay tribute to Philip Tuck MW, Hatch Mansfield wine director, who died in a cycling accident in Burgundy last week. Tuck was an active member of the Wine Trade Sports Club, being keenly involved in squash and cricket, and he had recently joined the club sub-committee to source the wine selection for the dinner in September.
Tickets for the dinner are priced at £95 per person, and can be purchased here.
